In 2022, Malawi had the highest prevalence of HIV in East Africa, with around seven percent. Uganda and Tanzania followed with 5.1 percent and 4.3 percent, respectively. Eritrea, on the other hand, had the lowest prevalence in the region, with 0.4 percent of the population living with HIV.
