According to a global survey of e-commerce merchants, consumers learning how to "game the system" was the most common reason for first party misuse (FPM) increase, with 46 percent reporting this reason in 2024. The increase in e-commerce sales followed, with over 40 percent of fraud and payment professionals mentioning this as a driving factor of the FPM increase. During the same year, refund/policy abuse was the most common type of fraud.
