Monthly downloads of digital wallet Wero in several countries in Europe 2024-2025
The Wero app was downloaded significantly more in France than in Germany, as Europe's first cross-country wallet continued its roll-out in 2025. This is according to information from an app tracker, focusing purely on downloads. Monthly active user figures, or MAU, were not yet available. Wero launched in July 2024, and is based on the design of the Netherlands' most popular payment method in e-commerce: The domestically developed bank transfer system iDEAL. It aims to resolve to two things. First, to enable real-time payments (or instant payments) between countries in Europe internationally. Real-time payments are considered the biggest trend in payments by 2025. Second, Wero can be considered an attempt to break away from U.S. payment rails, with several European countries relying on the services from Visa or Mastercard.
