In 1997, consumers in the United States allocated 52 percent of their nominal food expenditure on food at home, while 48 was spent on food away from home. By 2023\4, this trend had shifted, with 58.5 percent of food expenditure going toward food away from home and 41.5 percent spent on food at home.
