On June 4, 2025, members of the United Nations Security Council voted on a resolution to demand an immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, as well as the immediate, dignified, and unconditional release of all hostages held by Hamas. The draft was submitted by the non-permanent members of the UNSC. In total, 14 countries voted in favor, but the U.S. vetoed the resolution by voting against it. The U.S. described the draft to be unacceptable as it failed to condemn Hamas.
