The graph displays the percentage of the total U.S. petroleum net imports that were imported from OPEC countries between 1960 and 2011. In 2007, some 44.4 percent of all U.S. petroleum net imports came from such countries.
The abbreviation OPEC stands for Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries. Current members include Algeria, Angola, Ecuador, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, and Venezuela. Countries no longer members of OPEC include Gabon and Indonesia.
