The number of ice-skating participants in the U.S. aged six years and older, peaked at approximately 11.6 million in 2024. This marked an increase over the previous year's figure of 11.4 million. 

Ice skating vs. roller skating

Ice skating is a popular recreational activity and/or sport in the United States that can be performed both, indoors and outdoors. Despite its high participation number, a larger share of Americans still prefer to skate on paved solid ground, rather than on ice. In 2024, the number of participants aged six years and older in roller skating surpassed 13 million.

Sports on ice

Another popular sports among Americans also performed on ice is hockey - in 2024, the number of participants aged six years or older in ice hockey amounted to almost 2.7 million.
