Following a separation from its parent company, Komatsu Limited was first established in 1921 in Tokyo, Japan. As a leading multinational manufacturer of construction, mining, and military equipment, Komatsu has employees all around the world. The Japanese manufacturer employed 65,738 individuals in 2024. This represented a significant increase in the number of employees relative to the previous year, when a total of 64,343 were employed.
A global leader
In 2019, Komatsu was ranked as the world’s second largest manufacturer of construction machinery, making sales amounting to about 23.3 billion U.S. dollars. In addition, Komatsu held a market share of 11.5 percent in the same period, second only to the U.S.-based manufacturer Caterpillar, and well ahead of the next placed manufacturer John Deere who reported a share of 5.5 percent.
