In 2024, attendance at the Lotte World Adventure theme park in South Korea reached approximately 3.74 million. While this was a decrease from the previous year, attendance levels had yet to return to figures recorded before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
South Korea’s amusement parks
There are various amusement parks in South Korea, but one of the most popular theme parks is Everland in Yongin, a city in the province of Gyeonggi. Lotte World Adventure follows Everland in second place. Lotte World’s sales revenue reached over 300 billion South Korean won. This represents a recovery since the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, as sales revenue had not reached 150 billion won during that time. Lotte World is also among the most visited tourist attractions in South Korea.
Korea as a travel destination
South Korea is a popular destination for tourists due to increasing popularity and interest in Korean culture. Although the main reasons why tourists travel to Korea were to experience the food culture and to shop, going to amusement parks was also among the top ten. Tourist expenditure was estimated to have reached over 17 billion dollars in 2022, while the duration of their visit was between four and seven days on average.
