Global hotel chain Marriott accounted for 9,361 properties worldwide in 2024, up from 8,785 the previous year. The increase in properties from 2015 to 2016 can most likely be explained by Marriott’s acquisition of Canadian chain Delta Hotels and American chain Starwood Hotels and Resorts, in the years 2015 and 2016, respectively. Marriott increased its international presence outside of the U.S., with over 2,000 properties in international locations in 2023.
Continuously expanding hotel portfolio
With over 8,000 properties in its portfolio, Marriott is one of the largest hotel chains in the world. Competitor Hilton had around one thousand fewer properties in 2022. Meanwhile, fellow U.S. hotel chain Wyndham Hotel Group led the 2023 ranking of the top hotel companies by number properties, accounting for 9,059 units in its global portfolio.
Which hotel chain has the most rooms?
Marriott accounted for over 1.5 million hotel rooms worldwide in 2023, making it the leading hotel company in terms of number of guestrooms. Comparatively, Hilton had around 1.1 million rooms. Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, meanwhile, had 842,510 rooms.
