The total assets in the Eurosystem decreased in recent years, dropping to 6.4 trillion euros in 2024. This was the third consecutive year when assets decreased. The highest value of assets was reported in 2021, at roughly 8.6 trillion euros. The Eurosystem is composed of the ECB and the national central banks of the countries which have adopted the euro as their currency.
