Global onshore wind turbine manufacturers 2024, by commissioned capacity
China's dominance in the onshore wind turbine market is evident as Chinese manufacturers occupy five of the top six positions in global capacity commissioned for 2024. Goldwind leads the pack with an impressive 18 gigawatts, followed closely by Envision and Windey. This surge in Chinese manufacturers' prominence reflects the country's commitment to renewable energy and its growing influence in the global wind power sector.
Wind energy adoption and production
In terms of total wind energy production, China maintains its leading position, generating approximately 885 terawatt hours in 2023, nearly double the output of the second-ranked United States. On the other hand, Denmark leads the world in wind energy penetration, meeting almost 58 percent of its electricity demand through wind power in 2022. Ireland and Spain follow with 33 percent and 26 percent, respectively.
Global renewable energy landscape
While wind power plays a crucial role in the renewable energy mix, it's important to note that solar photovoltaic technology currently holds the highest installed capacity worldwide, reaching 1.41 terawatts in 2023. Hydropower follows closely with 1.27 terawatts, contributing to a total global renewable energy capacity of 3.87 terawatts. This diverse renewable energy portfolio highlights the ongoing transition towards cleaner power sources across the globe.
