As of February 2025, China was the country with the largest number of offshore wind farms under construction with 53 projects. The United Kingdom was second on the list with seven wind farm projects under construction. Higher wind speeds that occur offshore in comparison to land allow for a higher supply of electricity from offshore wind energy.
