Lufthansa AG was founded in 1953 as the flag carrier airline in Germany. After privatizing the airline in 1989, Lufthansa AG started to expand its activities progressively becoming one of the largest air transportation services provider globally. The airline group employed almost 101,710 people globally as of December 31, 2024. When it comes to operating indicators, the group demonstrated a remarkable performance until the coronavirus pandemic hit. However, the performance indicators bounced back strongly the year after. In 2024, Lufthansa Group transported more than 131 million passengers and generated nearly 32.8 billion euros in revenues. The Lufthansa Group owns Lufthansa German Airlines, Eurowings, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, and Lufthansa Cargo with a total group fleet consisting of 735 aircraft in 2024. Yet, the Lufthansa Group’s services are not only restricted to the transportation of passenger and goods. It also provides essential aircraft maintenance services through Lufthansa Technik. Major activities of Lufthansa Technik are comprised of maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO). In 2024, Lufthansa Technik’s revenue from MRO activities was above seven billion euros.
