The assets under management (AUM) in North America amounted to almost 56 trillion U.S. dollars in 2023, accounting for almost half of the total AUM worldwide.
What are assets under management?
Assets under management (AUM) is a financial term used to describe the total value of assets managed by an investment company on behalf of their clients. The investment company can be a bank, a wealth management company, or other financial services company investing clients’ money in selected financial instruments. The value of assets under management is dependent on many factor: As it depicts the amount of clients’ funds that have been entrusted to the investment company, the fluctuations of AUM value can indicate significant inflows or outflows of customer capital. The value of AUM also depends on the rate of return of the portfolio constituents. If the value of the financial instruments creating the portfolio falls, the value of AUM will also decrease.
