Oil consumption in Canada 2004-2023
Oil consumption in Canada reached roughly 2.4 million barrels per day in 2023, an increase of 1.7 percent when compared to the previous year. Between 2004 and 2023, figures decreased by some 50 thousand barrels per day, peaking at 2.5 million barrels per day in 2019. In recent years, the Alberta oil sands were accounted for in the proven oil reserves under the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board (now known as the Energy Resources Conservation Board).
