In 2024, Samsung retook the market leader position within the global semiconductor industry with a market share of 10.6 percent. Intel ranked second among vendors, occupying a market share of 7.9 percent, closely followed by the AI giant Nvidia with a share of 7.3 percent in 2024.
Semiconductor companies in the United States
Among the biggest semiconductor companies, a large proportion are based in the United States. In addition to Intel, notable U.S. semiconductor vendors include Nvidia, Qualcomm, and Broadcom. As a whole, U.S. semiconductor companies account for around 50 percent of the global market, ahead of several Asia-Pacific regions such as South Korea, Japan, China, and Taiwan.
Semiconductor applications
The global semiconductor industry develops components for use across a range of applications, including for smartphones, PCs, and data centers. In addition to these products, demand for automotive semiconductors is set to grow as cars become smarter and more connected, with a growing desire also being observed for chips that are capable of supporting artificial intelligence applications.
