TotalEnergies, formerly Total SE, generated a revenue of 237.13 billion U.S. dollars in 2023. This represented a decrease in comparison to the previous year. In 2022, decade-high oil and gas prices buoyed the company's fiscal results to the highest value in the period of consideration.
Company history
Founded in 1924, TotalEnergies is a French multinational oil and gas corporation that specializes in the entire oil and gas supply chain. From first producing oil in the Middle East, they have since expanded to global operations. It is considered among the oil supermajors, the largest publicly traded oil and gas producers. TotalEnergies is also involved in the chemical manufacturing industry and operator of numerous gas stations, being the third-largest petrol station brand in Germany, Europe's biggest car market. The company is headquartered in Paris-Courbevoie.
TotalEnergies' fiscal situation
TotalEnergies' total assets usually decline in years of oil crisis, as was the case between 2014 and 2015, and in 2020. However, overall the value of assets held by TotalEnergies saw a net increase between 2010 and 2023. TotalEnergies is comprised of five revenue generating segments - Exploration & Production, Integrated LNG, Integrated Power, Refining & Chemicals, and Marketing & Services. Their Refining and Chemicals segment is consistently among their most profitable segments. This segment includes TotalEnergies' refining, petrochemicals, and their specialty chemicals businesses.
