In 2023, the majority of ferry passengers on short sea routes in the United Kingdom sailed to, from or through ports in the Thames and Kent area, amounting to nearly nine million passengers in that year. Both South and West Coast ports handled over 2 million passengers a year, and ports situated on the East Coast handled just over 1.8 million ferry passengers.
