Home Depot and Lowe's: number of customer transactions globally 2011-2024

In 2024, the Home Depot carried out over 1.6 billion customer transactions worldwide, while Lowe’s carried out over 800 million of them. Both companies saw their customer transaction numbers decreasing slightly compared to the previous year. 

Lowe’s and Home Depot’s customer spending

While Home Depot accounted for higher customer transaction numbers between 2011 and 2024, customers spent more money per transaction in Lowe’s in each of those years. In 2024, customers spent an average of 103 U.S. dollars at Lowe’s, while Home Depot customers spent about 89 U.S. dollars per transaction.

Home improvement & DIY lumberyards

In 2024, the U.S. home improvement industry generated nearly 526 billion U.S. dollars in sales. By 2028, this amount is expected to reach almost 590 billion U.S. dollars. Do-it-yourself lumberyards in the United States made over 133 billion U.S. dollars’ worth of sales in 2024, a number which is projected to grow by roughly 17 million in four years' time.
