Oil refinery capacity in Europe 2023, by select country

Among European countries, Germany had the highest refinery capacity in 2023, with a capacity of more than two million barrels per day. While Germany has the highest capacity of any European nation, the capacity is relatively small when viewed in a global setting. For example, the United States has a daily oil refinery capacity of around 18.4 million barrels per day, and China has the capacity to produce approximately 18.5 million barrels per day.

In 2021, European oil exports amounted to approximately three million barrels per day, up from 2.1 million barrels per day in 2004.

In 2023, the  global daily oil refinery capacity was approximately 103.5 million barrels per day.
