This statistic is based on a survey and shows the overall experience of the U.S. population over 40 years of age with providing long-term health care as of 2016. Some 57 percent of the U.S. population over 40 years of age had no experience with long-term care. As people age, many begin to depend on their families for assistance. The elderly population in the United States consisted of 12 percent of the total population in 2012 and is expected to increase to 20 percent by 2030.
