Leading orphan designations in the EU by indication 2015
This statistic displays the top 20 EU orphan designations by indication as of October 2015. At this point of the year, there were 37 orphan designations associated with ovarian cancer. Orphan drugs are used to target rare diseases or disorders, which in the United States is defined as less than 200,000 patients. The development of orphan drugs are currently incentivized in the United States through the Orphan Drug Act of 1983.
