Accommodation establishments' revenue in Bulgaria 2019-2024
Bulgaria's travel accommodation sector is experiencing a robust recovery, with revenue from nights spent reaching a record high of over 2.4 billion Bulgarian leva in 2024. This marks a significant rebound from the industry's low point in 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic severely impacted travel and tourism worldwide.
Hotel market growth
The country's hotel industry has been expanding its capacity to meet growing demand. In 2023, there were more than 132,800 bedrooms in hotels and similar accommodations, showing a steady increase from previous years. This growth in capacity has been accompanied by rising occupancy rates, with the net occupancy rate of hotel bedrooms reaching almost 56 percent in 2023, approaching pre-pandemic levels.
Tourism recovery
The recovery of Bulgaria's tourist accommodation sector is further evidenced by the increasing number of nights spent in hotels. In 2023, approximately 25 million nights were recorded, over two million more than a year prior. Furthermore, the rebound can be observed through the growing hotel infrastructure and bed-place occupancy rates.
