As of 2023, the annual new passenger car sales in France amounted to nearly 1.77 million passenger cars, representing 16 percent increase from the previous year. New passenger car sales recorded a downward trend throughout the COVID-19 pandemic in France, dropping from over 2.2 million cars sold in 2019 to just under 1.66 million sales in 2021. The semiconductor chip shortage also impacted production and sales for French automakers, which contributed to a very slow recovery.
