The monthly sales of toys and games has barely fluctuated year over year and exports have consistently generated around 1.15 billion U.S. dollars (approximately 1.6 billion Canadian dollars as of December 2015) annually. Named among the leading toys and games companies in Canada were multinational toy manufacturers Hasbro Canada and Mattel Canada.
Hasbro is an American toy and board game company based in Rhode Island. With iconic brands such as Monopoly, Play-Doh and My Little Pony, Hasbro claims they aim to create the world’s best play experiences. In 2015, Hasbro generated more than 2.2 billion U.S. dollars (approximately 3.05 billion Canadian dollars as of December 2015) in revenue in the United States and Canada, with a further 1.97 million U.S. dollars produced internationally.
Considered the largest toys and games manufacturer in the world, Mattel is known for producing Barbie, Fisher-Price, Hot Wheels and Matchbox toys. In 2015, the company generated approximately 5.7 billion U.S. dollars (approximately 7.9 billion Canadian dollars as of December 2015) in revenue. Despite their recent decline in revenue, Mattel has maintained a position on the Fortune 500 list for 21 years. Hasbro and Mattel were also named among the major toy companies globally.
