This statistic displays the distribution of global codeine consumption by region, in 2023. In that year, the United Kingdom utilized approximately nine percent of the world's amount of codeine. Codeine is mostly manufactured from morphine through a semi-synthetic process. There has also been an increase in the cultivation of the opium poppy, which is also used to extract codeine.
