CO₂ emissions from top power producers in the U.S. 2021-2022
Vistra Energy is the largest carbon dioxide emitter among the 100 largest power producers in the United States. Vistra Energy emitted approximately 96 million tons of carbon dioxide (MtCO₂) into the atmosphere in 2022, a decrease of 13 percent from the previous year. The second-largest emitter in 2022 was Duke Energy, which released 86 MtCO₂. Electric power sector emissions in the U.S. are surpassed only by transportation sector emissions.
