Canada's energy sector produced 577 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MtCO₂e) in 2022, accounting for 80 percent of the country's total GHG emissions that year. When compared to 1990 levels, energy-related emissions in the North American country increased by roughly 18 percent.
