Drugstore chain stores in Germany 2023
The Rossmann drugstore chain is currently the most represented in Germany with 2,288 stores, followed by dm with 2,108 and Müller with 579. Budnikowsky brought up the rear with 179 locations. Germans shop at drugstores for a variety of products, from cosmetics to snacks, or household cleaning items.
The big four
The German drugstore market is dominated by these four companies. Rossmann traces its founding roots back to Hanover. dm-drogerie markt, or simply dm, and Müller are often seen in the south of Germany, though both also have stores in other German regions. Budnikowsky, known as Budni, was founded in Hamburg. As of 2023, dm had the highest revenue among the big four.
dm and Rossmann in the lead
Despite dm taking the lead in terms of revenue, Rossmann is the most widely represented drugstore in Germany, with over 2,288 stores. dm followed in second place, however, with over 100 stores less than Rossmann. For comparison, the Netherlands had around 2,800 drugstores in total as of 2023.
