Heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) in the United Kingdom have seen a fast decrease during the last couple of years. HGVs emitted 18.2 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MtCO₂e) in 2023 – a decrease of 4.2 percent from the previous year. However, the largest reduction since 1990 was in 2008 and 2009 during the global financial crisis, which caused emissions to fall almost eight percent year-over-year.
