Social protection includes elderly care, healthcare, functional limitation care and childcare, social security, and other important services for society. In 2021, the Swedish government spent approximately 11.7 billion Swedish kronor on social welfare.
Government income
The government’s largest source of income in 2021 was direct tax on labor, which amounted to 690 billion Swedish kronor. In total, the government income was 1.9 trillion kronor, meaning that it had a positive balance of 78 billion kronor in 2021.
