As of 2023, the number of prisoners in all prisons in Finland amounted to 3,166. There were 2,100 prisoners in closed prisons, of which 157 were female inmates and 1,943 male inmates.
Prisoners, who are deemed to adapt to the freer conditions than the conditions in closed prisons, are placed in open prisons.
