In 2023, apparent steel use in the European Union had reached 289 kilograms of finished steel products per capita, a nine percent decrease compared to the previous year. In 2012, steel use dropped slightly after a period of growth. From 2013 onwards, however, it steadily increased until 2018, when it peaked at 353 kilograms of finished steel products per capita, then started fluctuating in the following years.
