The death rate in Australia decreased by 0.4 deaths per 1,000 inhabitants (-5.48 percent) in 2023 in comparison to the previous year. This decrease was preceded by an increase in death rate. The crude death rate refers to the number of deaths in a given year, expressed per 1,000 population. When studied in combination with the crude birth rate, the rate of natural population increase can be determined.
