Number of offshore crude oil producing wells in Italy 2012-2018

In 2018, there were 58 offshore crude oil producing wells in Italy. The number of wells remained quite steady between 2015 and 2017. As for the onshore wells, their number steadily declined, reaching the lowest value in 2017. The following here, however, it increased to 109 wells.  

Crude oil domestic production

Regarding onshore production, Basilicata – with roughly 3.7 billion kilograms – was the region with the greatest crude oil generation in 2018. In the same years the total offshore crude oil production amounted to approximately 542.6 million kilograms.

Crude oil imports

The total volume of crude oil imported into Italy decreased from 87,006 thousand tons in 2006 to 62,053 thousand tons in 2018. In 2018, most of the supplies came from Middle East and from countries of the former Soviet Union . The relevance of African countries as crude oil suppliers for Italy decreased over time, whereas the share of imports coming from European countries and from America has always been marginal.
