Revenue of pharma companies in Brazil in 2023

The Brazilian group NC Farma which includes companies such as EMS, Germend, and Legrand, was the leading pharmaceutical group in Brazil in 2023, with a revenue of around 9.31 billion Brazilian reals generated from March 2022 to March 2023. Hypera Pharma and Eurofarma, both multinationals headquartered in São Paulo followed, with around nine and eight billion reals, respectively.

Brazil in the global pharmaceutical market

Brazil was among the leading pharmaceutical markets worldwide in 2023, with a market share of around two percent. The segment with the highest market revenue was oncology drugs, followed by vaccines and anti-diabetic drugs. In 2023, oncology drugs accounted for nearly a third of the revenue generated in the market. 

Brazilian pharmaceutical industry

The manufacturing industry is one of the main sectors of Brazil’s economy, and makes up approximately 13 percent of the country’s gross domestic product as of 2023. The pharmaceutical segment is no exception: with a production value of more than 50 billion Brazilian reals in 2020, the drug production market employed almost 197 thousand people that same year. For instance, only in the wholesale segment, the pharma sector was responsible for 11.37 billion Brazilian reals spent on salaries and remuneration.
