The number of positron emission tomography (PET) scan examinations conducted in the Netherlands declined to 142,067 scans in 2022. Nevertheless, the last two years recorded a significantly higher number of PET scans than the preceding years. PET is a highly specialised imaging technique using short-lived radioactive substances. This technique produces three dimensional images which are used mainly for the assessment of cancer spread in a patient's body.
