In 2022, there were 540 public hospitals with a department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Italy. Among these, in 330 facilities it was possible to perform voluntary interruptions of pregnancy, corresponding to 61.1 percent of the hospitals. According to the data, the share of public hospitals performing this medical procedure was much lower in Southern regions compared to Northern or Central ones, except for the Autonomous Provinces of Bolzano which is the region with the lowest rate. This graph shows the share of public hospitals, among the ones having a department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, performing voluntary interruption of pregnancies in Italy as of 2022.
