In the Netherlands in 2023, food expenditure on sustainable food varied across different product groups. Meat and meat products accounted for 23 percent of total expenditure on sustainable food, while eggs, on the other hand, represented only a four percent share of sales.

Sales in supermarkets, food service, and specialized organic food stores. The following are excluded: grocery stores for foreign food products, street vendors, purely online retailers, and specialized stores such as bakeries and butcheries.
