Solid biofuels energy capacity in Latin America and the Caribbean 2010-2024
In 2024, the energy capacity from solid biofuels and renewable waste in Latin America and the Caribbean was estimated to be around 23.2 gigawatts. Bagasse, a fibrous byproduct left after sugarcane stalks are crushed to extract their juice, accounted for the largest share, with a capacity of 17.02 gigawatts. This bioenergy source is widely used in the region for electricity generation, bioethanol production, and the manufacturing of biomass pellets and briquettes.
