In 2022, approximately 603 thousand cows were slaughtered in Italy for the production of marketable meat for human consumption. During the following year, the number of slaughters decreased, reaching approximately 512 thousand cows.

The source adds the following information: "Slaughtering is measured through activity of slaughterhouses from 1 January 2009 (application of Regulation (EC) No 1165/2009), i.e. production of marketable meat for human consumption. Estimates of ‘other slaughtering’ can be added for a more accurate picture of meat production." Data coverage corresponds to code B1230.
