UK coal imports from Russia 2002-2023

The United Kingdom (UK) imported no coal from Russia over the course of 2023. To compare, in the previous year, the imports reached approximately 1.1 million metric tons, down 49 percent from 2021. The UK banned imports of Russian coal and coal products from August 2022 in response to the invasion of Ukraine.

In 2013, the UK imported a significantly larger volume, over 20 million metric tons, of steam coal, coking coal, and anthracite from Russia.
