In financial year 2024, the production volume of crude steel by public sector companies in India accounted for more than 24 million metric tons, which attributed to a share of 17 percent of the total crude steel production. The share of the public sector companies in total crude steel production volume declined in recent years. India was the world's second-largest steel producing nation, just after China in 2022.
