In 2023, retail sales conglomerate Grupo Pão de Açúcar (GPA) employed 39,908 people in Brazil. This number of employees decreased from a year before, when it amounted to 37,699, due to the spin-off of the Assaí supermarket chain and the discontinuation of the Extra Hiper and Drugstores segments.
