The global capture capacity of operational commercial carbon capture and storage (CCS) facilities totaled 51 million metric tons (Mtpa CO₂) as of July 2024. In recent years, many countries have increased efforts to develop new CO₂ capturing techniques in order to lower greenhouse gas emissions. There were 50 operational large-scale CSS facilities worldwide as of July 2024.
