Aldi is one of the leading supermarket chains in the Netherlands. As of 2024, there were 487 Aldi stores in the country. This means that during the period under review the number of branches decreased overall, as back in 2012 Aldi counted 499 locations in the Netherlands.

In terms of number of stores, Aldi ranked above other German discounter Lidl, which counted 438 branches in the Netherlands in 2024. 

Market share 

Despite counting fewer locations, Lidl had a larger market share than Aldi in 2024, amounting specifically to 11.1 percent. Meanwhile, Aldi had a market share of approximately five percent that year, making it the fifth-largest supermarket chain in the Netherlands. Albert Heijn was the leading grocery retailer in the country, with a market share of close to 38 percent.
