In terms of number of stores, Aldi ranked above other German discounter Lidl, which counted 438 branches in the Netherlands in 2024.
Despite counting fewer locations, Lidl had a larger market share than Aldi in 2024, amounting specifically to 11.1 percent. Meanwhile, Aldi had a market share of approximately five percent that year, making it the fifth-largest supermarket chain in the Netherlands. Albert Heijn was the leading grocery retailer in the country, with a market share of close to 38 percent.
