In 2022, the production value of confectionery in Japan amounted to around 2.5 trillion Japanese yen, an increase from about 2.3 trillion yen in 2013. Within the domestic confectionery industry, chocolate and traditional Japanese confectionery (wagashi) account for the largest share of the sweets production value.
