Production volume of roasted coffee in Finland 2013-2023
Finland's roasted coffee production has been on a downward trend, with output falling from 52,821 tons in 2013 to 42,204 tons in 2023. The decline in coffee consumption is due to changing consumer preferences and industry dynamics in a coffee-loving country. However, a slight production increase was noted from 2022 to 2023.
A growing market
While the average coffee consumption per capita has remained relatively stable in Finland, the coffee import volume has increased in recent years. The volume of green coffee imports into Finland reached around 46,300 metric tons in 2023. Meanwhile, the import volume of roasted coffee amounted to around 12,000 metric tons.
Finnish coffee culture
Coffee drinking is deeply rooted in the Finnish society, although the country is not widely known for its coffee culture. Finns typically drink three to five cups of light roasted filter coffee on an average day. Most of the coffee is being consumed at home or workplace, and days are often divided by coffee breaks. While coffee is popular among all age groups, Finns aged 55 to 64 consume most of the hot beverage, accounting for a share of 25.7 percent.
