In 2021, more than 60 percent of deceased organ donors in Spain died from a stroke. The second cause of death among organ donors was anoxic encephalopathy, which accounted for more than 18 percent of the deceases among those who donated their organs in the country. Spain has been the world leader in organ donation for the last years.
